After a bit of toolpath work, the CNC router can make the entire handle, including the handle slot, spring hole and engraved name. Previously, the handle was turned by hand on a wood lathe. CNC gives more consistency and efficiency
Based on feedback received from testers, design work is proceeding on RC2
The new clamp is much more precise and positive, and it has a tracking adjustment. The increase in precision coupled with the tracking adjustment reduces drift
Unfortunately, for long duration work or applying pressure, lock collars are still necessary
Development continues on RC2. This version features the new locking mechanism, with tracking adjustment, more powerful motors, a transport locking mechanism, better cable and connector management
..and a road case
Ready to go
The machine was shown at the CHAMPS trade show in Las Vegas. Marcel used it on a large solid piece. As the piece reached about 6" dia and 5 in length, the machine struggled. The problem is being investigated, although the most likely explanation is that he simply found the limit of size and weight. The new locking mechanism had some problems, and will be revised
RC2 and RC1 at CHAMPS
Video of the work was shot by Mike Mason and shown on Torch Talk. I was included in the show, attempting to answer questions and give insights while fighting internet problems
